In order to be admitted to the final examination, students must have obtained all the credits required by their study plan, with the exception of those assigned to the final examination, and must be in good standing with the payment of university fees.

The degree may be awarded regardless of the number of years of enrolment, provided that all the required ECTS credits have been successfully completed.

The application for graduation must be submitted to the competent administrative office, signed by the academic advisor and forwarded through the Head of the Department, at least 90 days before the beginning of the graduation session in which the student intends to defend the thesis. The official protocol date shall be considered as the reference date.

At the time of submitting the application, the topic of the thesis must be indicated. The final thesis, signed by the academic advisor and, where applicable, by the co-advisor, must be uploaded through the online procedures at least seven working days before the graduation session.

Faculty members of the University, visiting professors, and contract lecturers holding a teaching assignment in the academic year in which the application is submitted may act as academic supervisors.

The final examination consists of the public discussion of a dissertation whose preparation requires a workload proportionate to the number of credits allocated to the final examination.

The dissertation must be written and presented in the language in which the Degree Programme is taught. At the student's request, the supervisor may authorise the dissertation to be written in English.

The final examination includes the presentation of the dissertation, which may also be delivered using multimedia support. The same amount of presentation time is allocated to all candidates in all graduation sessions.

The final examination is held with the candidate physically present and concludes with the formal proclamation and announcement of the final degree grade.

The final degree grade is expressed on a scale of 110 and is determined by the sum of three components:

1. the base score, calculated on the basis of the credit-weighted average of all examinations graded on a 30-point scale and converted to a 110-point scale;
2. the curricular score, up to a maximum of 4 points;
3. the final examination assessment score, up to a maximum of 7 points.

For the curricular score, the Examination Committee may award:

• up to 2 points for participation in at least one mobility programme involving the acquisition of credits (0.33 points for each month of mobility);
• 2 points for completing the Degree Programme within its standard duration;
• 1 point for completing the Degree Programme within one year beyond its standard duration;
• 1 point for obtaining honours (30 e lode) in at least two basic and/or subject-specific courses.

For the final examination assessment, the Examination Committee may award up to 7 points, taking into account:

• the quality of the final dissertation;
• the candidate's knowledge of the topics addressed and ability to relate them to the core subject areas of the Degree Programme;
• the candidate's ability to present the contents clearly and fluently and to draw conclusions consistent with the results obtained within the time allocated for the presentation.

The minimum grade required to obtain the degree is 66/110, while the maximum grade is 110/110, with the possibility of honours (lode).

Honours (lode) may be awarded to candidates who achieve a final score of at least 112, upon proposal by the supervisor and with the unanimous approval of the Examination Committee.

An Academic Distinction (Menzione accademica) may also be awarded, upon proposal by the supervisor and with the unanimous approval of the Examination Committee, where the candidate's base score is at least 107.

Final examinations are held in at least three examination periods, according to the Academic Calendar.

Degree certificates are subsequently awarded during a collective graduation ceremony held on the date established by the University.
